Griebel, 2016 Elks Hoop Shoot 8-9 Year Old National Champion, Honored in Harrisburg by Rep. Dush

HARRISBURG, Pa. (EYT) –  Eight-year-old Samantha Griebel of Punxsutawney, the 2016- Elks Hoop Shoot 8-9-year old National Champion, was invited to Harrisburg by Pennsylvania House of Representative Cris Dush of Brookville.

On May 24, Rep. Dush presented Griebel with an honorary citation for her accomplishments on the House floor.

By winning the Elk Hoop Shoot, Griebel will have her name inscribed into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.

Samantha succeeded her older sister, Danielle, as the reigning Pennsylvania and Regional Elk Hoop Shoot champion.

As a third grader, Samantha played on the Punxsutawney fourth-grade traveling basketball team coached by her father, Stephen. She also plays on the Indiana County fourth-grade AAU Sansos Team with her sister, Danielle. She is a straight A student at Saints Cosmas and Damian School in Punxsutawney.

Stephen Griebel, who is now an ophthalmologist in Punxsutawney, grew up on Fifth Avenue in Clarion and went to Immaculate Conception School before graduating from Clarion-Limestone. Her grandmother, Jane, still lives in Clarion. Her mother is Erika Szymusiak-Griebel and she has three older sisters, Danielle, Emily and Katelyn.
