Griebel Sisters of Punxsutawney Qualify for PA Elks Hoop Shoot


KITTANNING, Pa. (EYT) – Danielle and Samantha Griebel of Punxsutawney have both once again advanced to the Pennsylvania Elks Hoop Shoot after the sisters won their respective age brackets at the Elks West Central District Hoop Shoot at Armstrong High School Saturday, January 26.

Danielle, who is 13-years old, made 23 of 25 free throws to qualify for the state championship in the 12-13-years old bracket, while Samantha made 23 of 25 free throws to qualify for the state championship in the 10-11-years old bracket.

This is Danielle’s final year to compete in the competition, and she has now made it to the state level in five consecutive years. In 2015, she won the Pennsylvania Title and the Regional Title and advanced to the National Hoop Shoot competition in Springfield, Mass.

Samantha has claimed a pair of state titles winning in 2016 and 2018 and won the Regional competitions both years. In 2016, she won the national title in Chicago in 2016 and placed fourth at nationals in Chicago in 2018.

The District Hoop Shoot consists of competitors from nine different lodges. Danielle and Samantha were representing Apollo Lodge 386.

The Pennsylvania Hoop shoot will take place in Bellefonte, Pa., March 2.
