Harry "Ed" Dunkle

Harry “Ed” Dunkle, 82, of Route 322, Brookville, died peacefully on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at home.

He was born on November 19, 1930, in Sligo.

Harry was the son of Edwin McCullough Dunkle and Priscilla Dorothy Boyd Dunkle.

He was married July 23, 1954, in Brookville, to the former Mabel D. “Sis” Carrier, who survives

Harry was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He previously served three terms as Jefferson County sheriff and was a past warden of the Jefferson County jail in Brookville.

Harry was a member of the Hobah Lodge 276 F. &A.M. in Brookville, Coudersport Consistory, where he was a former commander-in-chief. He became a 33 degree Mason on Sept. 27, 1994, in Cleveland, Ohio, received the Order of the Purple Cross of the York Rite, was a past master of the Curwensville Masonic Lodge, and was very active in the Masonic Order.

He was the past president of the Pennsylvania Sheriffs Association, and a member of F.O.E 983 in Brookville.

Harry is survived by two sisters, Judy Wensel of Curllsville and Linda Elliott of Clarion; his favorite sister-in-law, Kitty Lou Williams; two granddaughters, Tammy Lynn Miller (David) and Ashley McAninch; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Lynn McAninch; and a sister, Ruby Fagley.

At Ed’s request there will be no public visitation. Interment will be at Pisgah Cemetery, Corsica.
