Hazel Flemming, age 96, died on December 12, 2016 in Punxsutawney, PA.
She was born December 3, 1920 in Bell Township, Clearfield County, a daughter of the late Virginia (Johnston) Yoder and Norman Yoder.
In addition to her parents, Hazel is preceded in death by three brothers; Clyde Yoder, Norman (Clair) Yoder, and Blain Yoder, four sister; Mildred Johnson, Mabel States, Esther Cramer, and Twila (Gaynell) Peterson.
Hazel had no natural children of her own, but instead became a “second mom” to her 11 nieces and 18 nephews, all of whom have great, lasting memories of a kind and generous “Aunt Hazel”.
Hazel married Ray Frampton, a railroad engineer with the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, and resided with Ray in Meadville, PA from 1944-1979. While living in Meadville, she was active with the Meadville First Baptist Church, and she served for many years as president of the Meadville area Cancer Society. After Ray’s death, she moved to Gouverneur, New York, where she married Everett Flemming and lived until Everett’s death in 1992. Hazel then moved back home to Bell Township, where she lived the past 24 years.
Although she experienced great personal tragedy in her own life, she never dwelled on it, preferring instead to bring happiness and joy to everyone around her. She loved to travel, and introduced many of her nieces and nephews to places they never would have experienced without her help and encouragement. During her later years, she became very interested in geneology, and spent much time researching Yoder ancestry. She was an avid outdoor person, and loved to hike, fish and explore.
Hazel leaves a legacy of unselfish love, compassion, service to others, and happiness that serves as a great example to those she leaves behind. Her entire adult life reflected the core values of Christianity as she followed Jesus Christ in her own quiet, unassuming, private manner. She will be forever missed, greatly respected, and never forgotten.
Friends will be received from 10 until noon Saturday, December 17, at the Waldron Funeral Home in Mahaffey, where a funeral service will be held at noon with Rev. Melvin Cramer officiating.
Interment will follow at Otterbein Cemetery in Mahaffey.
