Healthy Pennsylvania Enrollment Opens for Affordable Health Insurance

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services announced the opening of Healthy PA enrollment at a kick-off event December 1 in Philadelphia.

“We are proud to offer the opportunity for more than 600,000 eligible Pennsylvanians to qualify for quality, affordable health insurance. We encourage people to enroll so they can start the new year with good health,” Department of Human Services Secretary Bev Mackereth said.

Healthy PA will provide low-income Pennsylvanians with the opportunity to purchase private health insurance at affordable rates through a network of eight insurance private insurers, offering three or more health insurance plan options per region. Coverage will begin Jan. 1, 2015. Apply online at www.compass.state.pa.us and learn more at www.healthypa.com.

Enrollment for Healthy PA, including the Healthy PA Private Coverage Option, will remain open all year for individuals age 21 through 64 with income at or below 133 percent of the Federal Poverty Level who are not eligible to receive Medicaid.

Pennsylvanians are also reminded of additional enrollment periods currently underway in Pennsylvania, including:

· Open enrollment for the federal marketplace, which continues through Feb. 15, 2015, at www.healthcare.gov. It will then close for the year, with only a few exceptions. Whether renewing a current policy or shopping for a new one, consumers are encouraged to visit www.PAHealthOptions.com, the state’s unbiased source for information on types of plans, ways to evaluate a person’s insurance needs and ways to shop for coverage.

· Open enrollment for Pennsylvanians on Medicare, which began Oct. 15 and continues through Dec. 7. Medicare beneficiaries are encouraged to seek help to learn about changes in benefits and evaluating which health care insurance plan meets their needs. The Pennsylvania Department of Aging’s APPRISE program offers free, objective, one-on-one health insurance counseling to assist Pennsylvanians with Medicare.
