Hearing Continued for Man Involved in Standoff in Reynoldsville

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – The hearing for a Reynoldsville man jailed following a standoff that occurred at a residence in Reynoldsville was once again continued.

According to a representative of Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana’s office, the preliminary hearing for 45-year-old Steven James Shaffer scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, was continued, and a date for the hearing to resume has not yet been scheduled.

This is the third continuance for the case.

Shaffer faces the following charges:

– Persons not to Possess/Use/Manufacture, Control/Sell, Transfer Firearms, Felony 1
– Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Structure, Felony 3
– Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2

He is currently lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on $100,000.00 monetary bail.

The charges stem from a standoff that occurred at a residence in Reynoldsville Borough, Jefferson County, in early December of 2019.

Details of the case:

According to DuBois-based State Police, authorities responded to a residence along Brown Road, in Reynoldsville for the report of a man that was threatening persons inside his residence with a firearm.

Police say Steven James Shaffer entered into an argument with the victims at which time an altercation took place. Shaffer was said to have discharged four rounds from a Smith and Wesson AR-15 inside the residence. The victims disarmed Shaffer prior to vacating the residence.

Upon PSP’s arrival, a perimeter was established by members of the DuBois, Clarion, Marienville, and Punxsutawney stations under the command of Sergeant Brad Fuhrer.

SERT (Special Emergency Response Team) was activated, and upon arriving at the scene established communication with Shaffer who surrendered at 11:20 a.m.

Shaffer was charged and remanded to the Jefferson County Jail.

The scene was processed by Troop C FSU Trooper Theodore Horner, and the lead investigator is Trooper Carol Strishock.

Route 950 was closed between Main Street and Sarah’s Soft Serve as a result of the situation.
