Hearing for Punxsy Woman Accused of Insurance Fraud Set for Thursday

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – A hearing is scheduled for Thursday for a Punxsutawney woman who is accused of filing an insurance claim for an accident that occurred before she obtained her insurance policy.

Court documents indicate 41-year-old Danielle Christi Bobby is scheduled to stand for a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, on the following charges:

– False/Fraud/Incomplete Insurance Claim, Felony 3
– Criminal Attempt – Theft By Deception-False Impression, Felony 3
– Insurance/Intent To Defraud, Misdemeanor 1

She is currently free on $5,000.00 unsecured bail.

The charges stem from an investigation into a crash that occurred in December 2020.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, an investigation was initiated by the Western Regional Office of the Insurance Fraud Section of the Office Attorney General based on referral information from The General Insurance Company.

The investigation revealed that on or around December 4, 2020, between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. a vehicle belonging to Danielle Christi Bobby rear-ended a vehicle driven by a known victim, and Bobby, who was not in the vehicle, then came to the accident scene, the complaint indicates.

According to the complaint, Bobby did not have insurance for the vehicle and was unable to provide insurance information to the victim. Bobby reportedly offered to pay for the damages out of pocket.

Bobby then obtained a new policy from The General Insurance Company through an online application which took effect at 12:31 a.m. on. December 5, 2020, and did not disclose the prior accident during the application process. Then on December 16, 2020, Bobby filed a claim with The General Insurance Company alleging that the accident occurred on December 5, 2020, according to the complaint.

The damage to the victim’s vehicle was estimated to be approximately $3,688.22, and the claim was denied, the complaint notes.

When an investigator spoke to Bobby on April 14, 2021, she admitted that she previously had another insurance policy that had lapsed 10 days prior to the accident and didn’t realize she didn’t have insurance on the vehicle until after the accident. She also reportedly admitted that she did not disclose the accident when she obtained the policy through The General Insurance Company, according to the complaint.

Bobby denied filing a claim with The General Insurance Company and said that she wanted to pay the victim out of pocket for the damages from the crash. She told the investigator that the victim then called her again, sometime in the middle of December, wanting her insurance information, and she told him she would arrange to make payments for the damages. She stated she told the victim the name of her insurance company, but denied giving him her policy number, the complaint notes.

Bobby also reportedly denied acquiring insurance the day after the accident for the purpose of paying for the damages that occurred during the accident on December 4, the complaint states.

According to the complaint, the investigator then spoke to Bobby again on April 15, during which she said she contacted The General Insurance Company on December 16, 2020, and obtained a claim number, then when she called again, she gave the insurance the wrong date of the accident.

She reportedly stated: “I guess I did file a claim, but I didn’t mean to.” She reportedly insisted she wanted to pay for the damages out of pocket and not involve the insurance company, according to the complaint.

Bobby was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock at 11:00 a.m. on June 28.
