Hearing for Sykesville Teen Who Fled Traffic Stop Set for Thursday

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – A hearing is scheduled for Thursday for a Sykesville teen who allegedly fled from a traffic stop on Route 119.

Court documents indicate 19-year-old Frank James Hulton is scheduled to stand for a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, November 4, on the following charges:

– Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Officer, Misdemeanor 2
– Reckless Driving, Summary
– Careless Driving, Summary
– Duties At Stop Sign, Summary
– Turning Movements And Required Signals, Summary

The charges stem from an incident that took place in Gaskill Township in late July.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:22 p.m. on July 25, Punxsutawney-Based State Police observed a black Chevrolet Cobalt with three male passengers traveling south on State Route 119 and turning left onto Mill Street, in Gaskill Township, Jefferson County. Police began to follow the vehicle, which then reportedly made a right turn onto Aloe Park Road without using a turn signal and then accelerated to a high rate of speed.

The complaint indicates the trooper began to speed up to catch the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop and after traveling at speeds of approximately 68 to 70 miles per hour, the trooper was able to see the tail lights of the vehicle going around a curve and then activated his emergency lights. The trooper then continued traveling at a high rate of speed until the vehicle was in his sight and then activated his siren.

According to the complaint, the vehicle failed to stop at a clearly posted stop sign at the intersection of Aloe Park Road and Robertsville Road, but then came to a stop on Robertsville Road, approximately .34 miles from where the trooper had activated his siren.

The following were filed against Hulton through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on September 9.
