Hearing Set for Brookville Man Busted with Unstamped Cigarettes

BROOKVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Brookville man is facing a preliminary hearing on possession of unstamped cigarettes charges following a 2018 investigation.

Court documents indicate Jeffery Joe Shaffer, 36, is scheduled to stand for a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak on Tuesday, April 2.

He faces the following charges:

– Possession of Unstamped Cigarettes, Felony
– Possession of Unstamped Cigarettes, Misdemeanor

According to Brookville Borough Police, Shaffer was charged following a State Parole spot check that occurred around 7:40 p.m. on June 26, 2018.

Police say Shaffer was in possession of a large amount of the unstamped cigarettes while undergoing the spot check. State Parole then contacted the Brookville Borough Police Department. The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue also assisted with the investigation.

Unable to post 7% of $15,000.00 cash bail, Shaffer remains lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.
