Hearing for Punxsy Man Accused of Assaulting Woman During Domestic Dispute Set for Tomorrow

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – A hearing is scheduled for tomorrow for a Punxsutawney man who allegedly assaulted a woman during a domestic dispute.

Court documents indicate 30-year-old John R McBee is scheduled to stand for a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock at 1:45 p.m. on July 29, on the following charges:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary
– Disorderly Conduct Hazardous/Physical Offense, Summary

The charges stem from an incident in Young Township in May.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, Punxsutawney-based State Police were dispatched to a residence on Calvary Lane in Young Township, Jefferson County, on May 15 for a report of a domestic incident in progress.

It was then determined that a verbal altercation had occurred between John R. McBee and a known female victim, and no physical injury was reported or observed. McBee then agreed to go to a relative’s residence for the evening, and he left the residence.

According to the complaint, after McBee left the residence, he turned his vehicle around on Calvary Lane, drove at an unsafe speed back to the residence, and pulled through the yard, bottoming out the vehicle in the driveway. He then exited the vehicle, slammed the driver’s door, and began yelling obscenities and accusations at the victim, saying that she had slashed his tires. Relatives of McBee’s then got him into their vehicle and took him to their residence.

Before police left the scene, the victim related that she wanted to report a previous altercation involving McBee where she received injuries. It was then determined the victim would come to speak to Punxsutawney-based State Police on May 16 and bring photos of the injuries she had received, according to the complaint.

The victim was interviewed at the PSP Punxsutawney barracks on May 16.

She reported that on April 24, between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., she and McBee were engaged in a verbal argument that began to escalate. She said that she attempted to hug McBee, and as she approached, he extended his arm out against her, pressing it into her upper chest and throat to keep her away. The victim told police McBee was getting ready to leave their house, so she took his keys, and he started to chase her, the complaint states.

The victim reported that McBee then knocked her backward against the stairs, got on top of her, straddling her body, and grabbed her arms and wrist tightly, resulting in severe bruising. The victim said that she was able to get away, and after approximately 20 minutes, they had calmed down, and he calmly attempted to get his keys and told her she could not tell anyone about the incident, stating “you have to do whatever I say” and “if I wanted you to wear a collar and get on all fours, you would have to do it,” the complaint indicates.

The victim provided police with photos she had taken of the bruising she suffered from the incident, the complaint notes.

On May 16, police also interviewed McBee about the incident.

McBee told police that the victim had grabbed his car keys which he had attached to one of his belt loops, ripping the belt loop in the process. He said she then ran through the basement toward the steps and said he didn’t want her to fall and get hurt, so he wrapped his arms around her, and due to her size and his grasp, impressions were left, according to the complaint.

The charges were filed against McBee through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on May 26.
