Hearings for Siblings Involved in Brawl in Brookville Set for Thursday

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – Two local residents are facing hearings on Thursday on charges related to a sibling squabble that turned violent in Brookville Borough.

Court documents indicate 30-year-old John Robert Hilliard and 29-year-old Elainna Hilliard, both of Brookville, are scheduled to stand for preliminary hearings in front of Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 1.

They each face the following charges:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Disorderly Conduct Engage In Fighting, Misdemeanor 3
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Misdemeanor 3

Both defendants are free on $20,000.00 (10%) monetary bail each.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred earlier this month in Brookville Borough.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 8:26 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, Brookville Borough Police were dispatched to a residence on Pennsylvania Avenue for a 9-1-1 hang-up call. Police were then notified the call was related to a domestic dispute between a brother and sister, and the female involved was at a location on Crestwood Circle.

Police proceeded to the Crestwood Circle address where they spoke to Elainna Hilliard.

According to the complaint, Hilliard told police she went to her parents’ house, where her brother John Hilliard also resides, for some Benadryl. She reported that she walked into the house found John in the kitchen, feeding his dogs, and when she took the Benadryl, John told her it belonged to him and said he bought it for the dogs. She then took six of the Benadryl, came back with $5.00, and slammed it on the table.

She told police that she then texted her parents saying she was going to “kick his a**,” and told John the same thing. She reported that John mumbled something about: “That’s what she thought” and “Let’s do it now,” and she told him “Let’s go, right now.” He reportedly responded: “Not in the house, outside,” and they both went outside, according to the complaint.

Elainna reported that she “would not throw the first punch,” and told John to hit her, but he didn’t do anything, so she began pushing his shoulder. They then ended up against a bush.

According to the complaint, Elainna said that John then threw her to the ground and put her in a chokehold so she couldn’t breathe. She then began swinging at him, and he told her to stop. She stopped long enough for him to get off of her, got up, and tried to back him into a fence. She reported that he then struck her in the arm with a landscaping rock he’d pick up. She told police that John picked up a shovel and swung it at her to keep her away. She said he then jumped the fence, went inside, and told her that he was calling the police. She then went home and also called the police.

When John Hilliard was interviewed, he reportedly told police that Elainna got mad after he told her the Benadryl was his and that he had purchased it for his dogs. He said she then came back and slammed $5.00 on the table, and told him “that should cover it,” before leaving. He reported she then returned and told him she was “going to kick his a**” and insisted on fighting. They then went outside.

He reported that when they went outside, she took a boxing stance and charged him, then grabbed his shirt near his right shoulder and would not let go. He noted they were up against a bush, and he tried to get away from it, but she somehow took him to the ground, with her legs wrapped around him. He said he was afraid she would get an advantage and used a “takedown move” that ended with him on top of her, according to the complaint.

The complaint indicates that he said he then put her in a chokehold and kept telling her to stop, but she was punching and scratching at him. He said once she calmed down, he pushed off of her, but she then came at him again. He said that he had grabbed a landscaping rock during the fight and then threatened to hit her with it. He told police he swung it at her, but never made contact.

He also stated that he then got backed against a fence and grabbed a shovel and swung it at her before jumping over the fence and running into the house. He reported she followed him into the house, and he told her he was calling the police. She then left and went home.

Elainna Hilliard later spoke to police again to try to recant her statement and said she did not want to press charges, the complaint notes.

However, John Hilliard told police he DID want to press charges, the complaint states.

Both individuals were transported to the police station for interviews. Police also photographed each individual’s physical injuries, including bruising, scratches, other wounds, and red marks.

Both defendants were arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak at 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15.
