Helen Behrendt

Helen Behrendt, 96, Punxsutawney, died Friday, January 16, 2015, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born September 23, 1918, in Valier, a daughter of the late Eva (Wagner) and Peter Zelonis.

On May 16, 1935, she married Earl E. “Pinky” Behrendt, who preceded her in death.

Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, gardening, cooking, baking, crossword puzzles, and Sunday dinners.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Loretta Gray of Punxsutawney and Marjorie DeChurch and husband Nick of Big Run; five grandchildren, D. Craig Gray, Gary A. Gray, Nicholas E. DeChurch, Karl A. DeChurch and wife Marnie, and Kerrie L. DeChurch; two great grandchildren, Heather Yount and husband Josh and Eric T. Gray; two great great grandchildren, Evan L. Yount and Eva D. Yount; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Julia Ball, Isabelle Polito, Anna Zelonis, and Mary Zelonis; a brother Joseph Zelonis; and a son-in-law Donald S. Gray.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, January 18, 2015, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday, January 19, 2015, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2015, at the funeral home with Minister Gina McElwee officiating.

Interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
