Helen Martha Lyons

Helen Martha Lyons, 99, Punxsutawney, died Monday, October 27, 2014, at home.

She was born in 1915, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Fred S. and Zula (Stiver) Heitzenrater.

On March 31, 1937, she married Harry J. Lyons, who preceded her in death on November 10, 1988.

She was a member of the First Church of God of Punxsutawney.

Helen was a Seamstress and specialized in drapery making.

She enjoyed reading the paper and keeping up with current events, crocheting, painting, reading, crafts and her dog Benji. She was also a vendor at the Hazen Flea Market for over 40 years.

Surviving relatives include four children, Janet McCoy and husband Norman of Kersey, PA, Marjorie Tuite of Apollo, PA, Keith Lyons and wife Marilyn of Rossiter, PA, and Carol Hinds and husband Douglas of Punxsutawney; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Muriel Grube and Patricia Martz; a brother Richard Heitzenrater; a daughter-in-law Beverly Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son Donald Lyons, a brother Wallace Heitzenrater, and a son-in-law Gerald Tuite.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 30, 3014, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

Memorial contributions, in memory of Mrs. Lyons, may be made to the donors’ choice.
