Helen Sfakianos

Helen Sfakianos, age 84, of Mars, PA., formerly of Reynoldsville, PA., died on May 13, at the Concordia of Cranberry Nursing Center in Mars.

Helen was born on August 4, 1933, in Reynoldsville to the late George and Marth (LuViere) Sfakianos. Helen was a 1951 graduate of the Reynoldsville High School. Her family owned and operated George’s Hot Dog Shop located on Main Street in Reynoldsville. When her parents passed away, Helen continued to help run the hot dog shop for all the people who enjoy eating there. She retired after 35 years as the office manager for the National Fuel Company.

She was a member and past Matron of the Eastern Star. While living in Mars, she was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in McCandless Township. Helen enjoyed bowling, tennis, and any other sport with a ball in which she was very “sports-minded”. She also enjoyed being around young children and listening to their stories while watching them grow up and become successful. Most importantly, Helen was very loving, devoted, and extremely family-oriented.

Helen is survived by three nephews: Lou Zozos of Wexford, PA., George Zozos of Lock Haven, PA., and Nickolas of Ross Township, PA., and one niece, Thespina Palka of Mount Lebanon, PA. Helen is also survived by great-nieces and nephews, Daniel, Jessie, Carrissa, Alexandria, Kaylee, Nickolas Sfakianos, as well as her sister, Persephone Zozos.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, May 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home on East Main Street in Reynoldsville. A funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 19, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Mark Meholick officiating.

Interment will immediately follow at the Reynoldsville Cemetery.
