High School Baseball and Softball Roundup: DuBois Baseball Beats DCC 1-0

Saturday’s high school baseball and softball recaps.

BASEBALL

DUBOIS 1, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 0, 8 INNINGS

DUBOIS, Pa. – Zach Sloan scored on a two-out throwing error by Jake Miknis in the bottom of the eighth innings to give DuBois a 1-0 win over DuBois Central Catholic in the City Classic at Showers Field.

Sloan had reached on an intentional walk in the eighth after Peter Foradora doubled leading off the inning as a pinch hitter and pinch runner Mitch Ferra went to third on a wild pitch promoting the intentional pass.

A groundout back to the mound moved Sloan to second with Ferra holding at third, and then Matt Agosti hit a grounder to second with Ferra out at the plate on a nice play by Michael Misiewicz for the second out. Sloan went to third on the play.

Ryan Pasternak then hit a ball to Miknis at short, and the seniors throw was off the mark to first allowing Sloan to score the winning run.

Up to that point, it had been all about pitching.

Miknis started for DCC and went seven innings allowing two hits, a walk and two hit batsmen while striking out 11. Nick Szczerba took over in the eighth and allowed one unearned run on one hit and the intentional walk.

Noah Schneider may have even been better for DuBois considering he wasn’t expecting to pitch.

Nick LaBrasca got the first two outs of the game for DuBois before leaving the mound with an injury. Schneider then came in and went 7 ⅔ innings without giving up a run. He allowed two hits, three walks and a hit a batter while striking out six to get the win.
