High School Baseball Recaps: C-L Gets Big Win over Forest Area

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – A 14-run second inning helped Clarion-Limestone roll to a season-opening 22-2 win in three innings over visiting Forest Area Tuesday.

The Lions sent 20 men to the plate in the epic second inning after taking an 8-0 lead at the end of one.

Christian Smith and Riley Hummell each drove in three runs for C-L with Smith going 2-for-4 with a run scored and Hummell going 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored.

Jake Zacherl added a pair of doubles for the Lions and was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Alex Acree also had a double. Acree finished 1-for-1 with two runs scored and an RBI. Taylor Smith scored four runs out of the leadoff spot and was 1-for-1 with three walks. Ian Hawthron also scored three times and went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Acree and Christian Smith combined to give up three hits. Acree gave up one hit in two innings striking out five. Smith gave up two unearned runs on two hits while striking out two in his inning of work.

Nic Smail, Manny Tirado and Austin Johnino each had hits for the Fires with Tirado and Smail scoring the Forest Area runs. Smail took the loss on the mound.
