High School Baseball Roundup: DCC Beats ECC, 4-1

Monday’s high school baseball recaps.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 4, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 1

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Behind a strong pitching performance by Nick Szczerba, DuBois Central Catholic avenged one of its two losses on the season with a 4-1 win at Elk County Catholic.

Szczerba, who suffered the loss in a 1-0 defeat to DuBois Saturday in eight innings, threw seven innings Monday allowing one run on three hits and four walks while striking out two.

Ty Bittner was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI to pace DCC with Thomas Grecco also going 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jake Miknis going 2-for-4with a run scored. Justin Miknis was also 2-for-4 for the Cardinals, and Brandon Walker added an RBI.

Ross Brennen had a double for ECC with courtesy runner Jordan Nasoni scoring the Crusaders lone run, which was driven in by Nate DaCanal.

Brennen suffered the loss going seven innings allowing four runs, two earned, on nine hits and a walk while striking out four.

BROCKWAY 11, YOUNGSVILLE 0, 5 INNINGS

YOUNGSVILLE, Pa. – Corey Carr went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored to lead visiting Brockway to an 11-0, five-inning win at Youngsville.

Michael Martino was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs for the Rovers with winning pitcher Seth Shugarts also going 2-for-4 with an RBI with his courtesy runner, Tino Inzana, scoring three times. Braden Martini added a 2-for-2 day with an RBI and a run scored.

Shugarts went all five innings allowing three hits and striking out two.

CLARION 15, FOREST AREA 0, 3 INNINGS; CLARION 15, FOREST AREA 0, 3 INNINGS

SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. – Clarion produced a pair of 15-0, three-inning wins in a doubleheader against Forest Area.

Clarion scored the 30 runs on the day despite having just 10 hits. The Bobcats took advantage of 10 Forest Area errors, 17 walks and seven hit batters over the course of the two games.

Meanwhile, Bobcat pitching didn’t allow a base runner in either game.

In Game One, Clarion had six hits but walked nine times while being hit three times. The Fires committed six miscues.

Adrian Weber led the way going 1-for-1 with three walks, two RBIs and a run scored. Reed Anthony drove in three runs and was 1-for-2 with a run scored, and Sterling Conner had a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Bo Miller pitched a three-inning perfect game striking out six of the nine batters he faced on 31 pitches.

In the second game, Clarion had only four hits but walked eight times while getting hit four more times. Forest Area committed four errors.

Dominic Fleming had two RBIs and scored twice, while Miller scored three times and was 1-for-1 with two walks and an RBI. Weber also scored twice going 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI, and Caleb Wilson added a pair of runs scored and an RBI.

Cam Craig got the win in relief of Ryan Anthony going one inning and striking out all three batters he faced. Anthony pitched two perfect innings striking out four of the six he faced.
