PUNXSUTAWNEY 9, DUBOIS 0

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – John Matthews became the all-time pitching wins leader in Punxsutawney history when he threw a one-hit shutout in a 9-0 Chucks win over visiting DuBois.

Matthews didn’t walk a batter and struck out nine on his way to the record-setting win.

Helping his own cause, Matthews was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Joey DiPietro was also 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Dylan Huey was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Peyton Graham was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Braxton Giavedoni also went 2-for-4 with two run scored.

Ryan Pasternak had DuBois’ lone hit.

Ethan Long took the loss going 3 ⅔ innings allowing six runs, only two earned, on seven hits and a walk. Ryan Radaker pitched 2 ⅓ innings giving up three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out two.

BROOKVILLE 7, BRADFORD 2

BRADFORD, Pa. – Dane Lyle threw a 4-hitter and singled in two runs to lead visiting Brookville to a 7-2 win over Bradford.

Kyle Dunkle had two hits, singling twice. He singled, and Ben Reitz doubled in the Raider’s three-run first inning that saw three straight bases-loaded walks.

Austin Cook added an RBI single in the fifth, and Ben Caun had a safety squeeze bunt that drove in a run in the sixth.

Lyle went the distance, striking out four and walking one.

Both of Bradford’s two first-inning runs were unearned. Bryce Skaggs drove home the first run, and Isaac Gralak singled in the Owls’ second run.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 4, BROCKWAY 3, 8 INNINGS

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Nate DaCanal singled home Dan Stauffer with the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Elk County Catholic squeezed past Brockway, 4-3.

Brockway had forced extras with a run in the top of the seventh when Angelo Inzana scored on a throwing error when Mike Martino grounded out for the second out of the inning.

Ross Brennen drove in two runs for ECC and was 1-for-3 with a walk. Connor O’Leary was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Seth Shugarts was 2-for-4 with run scored for Brockway. Corey Carr and Hunter Antonuccio each had doubles for the Rovers. Zach Fordari added a pair of RBIs.

Alex Dattoli got the win in relief of Brennen allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits and three walks in five innings. Brennen pitched three innings not allowing a run. He gave up two hits and struck out three.

Antonuccio got the loss in relief of Carr. He went ⅓ of an inning allowing the one run on one hit and three walks. Carr threw seven innings allowing three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out 10. He threw 117 pitches.
