High School Baseball Roundup: Punxsutawney Claim Central Penn Title

Tuesday’s high school baseball recaps.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 2, WILLIAMSPORT 0

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – John Matthews threw a one-hit shutout and also drove in the winning run, as Punxsutawney wrapped up the Central Penn League title with a 2-0 win at Williamsport.

Matthews also walked a batter and struck out seven.

The game was scoreless until the sixth when Matthews singled home Braxton Giavedoni, who walked leading off the inning and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lucas Burkett.

Punxsutawney then added an insurance run in the seventh when Brandon Matthews singled home Dylan Huey, who had walked leading off the inning.

Until the two leadoff walks cost him, Evan Steele was matching zeros with John Matthews. Steele ended up going 6 ⅓ innings allowing two runs on five hits and four walks while also hitting a batter in the seventh. He struck out six.

Punxsutawney is now 13-3 on the season. The Chucks host Brookville Thursday.

DUBOIS 5, HOLLIDAYSBURG 4

DUBOIS, Pa. – Ryan Pasternak’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning gave DuBois a 5-4 win over visiting Hollidaysburg.

No additional information was available on this game.

DuBois is now 12-4 on the year.
