High School Baseball Roundup: Punxsutawney Scores Late to Beat Brookville

PUNXSUTAWNEY 4, BROOKVILLE 3

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – A Jacob Weaver single to center in the bottom of the sixth scored Peyton Graham giving Punxsutawney a 4-3 win over visiting Brookville in a game that ended around 9:30 p.m.

Graham had reached on a two-out error by shortstop Jordan Tosh and moved to second on a wild pitch.

Punxsy had trailed 3-2 after 4 ½ innings but tied the game with a run in the fifth before taking the lead in the sixth.

Lucas Burkett was 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI for the Chucks, while Weaver was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Kyle Dunkle led Brookville going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Lance Pennington got the win in relief of Graham. Pennington pitched four innings allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out seven. Graham pitched three frames allowing two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out three.

Dane Lyle suffered the loss allowing an unearned run on two hits and a walk in 1 ⅔ innings of work. Ben Reitz started and went 4 ⅓ giving up three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three. Two of the runs were earned.

Punxsutawney is now 14-3, while Brookville dropped to 7-9 as its four-game winning streak was snapped.

JOHNSONBURG 8, BROCKWAY 3

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Behind three RBIs from Johnny Mitchell, visiting Johnsonburg beat Brockway, 8-3, in a game called after five innings because of rain.

Mitchell was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a run scored to lead the Rams, who also got a pair of hits from Ben Freeburg, doubles from Josh Raubenstrauch and Jake Zimmerman and a pair of runs scored by Tyler Singer.

Jeremy Breier got the win going five innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and a walk while striking out two.

Losing pitcher Corey Carr was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored for Brockway, while Mike Martino went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Carr had an uncharacteristic bad outing lasting 4 ⅓ innings allowing eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits and four walks while striking out six.

Johnsonburg is 5-11 on the year with Brockway coming in at 5-6.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 7, CURWENSVILLE 3

DUBOIS, Pa. – Ty Bittner was 2-for-2 with four RBIs and a run scored, while Jack Frank was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Dom Torretti got the win going four innings in relief and allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out three.

Jake Miknis started and went three innings allowing no hits while walking and striking out six.

Hunter Lancaster and RJ Olson each had an RBI for Curwensville. Lancaster hit a double.

Noah Vongunden took the loss going 1 ⅔ innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on four hits and two walks.

DCC moves to 13-2 on the year with Curwensville dropping to 6-11.
