High School Softball Roundup: Big First Inning Helps Brookville 10-Run Bradford

Wednesday’s high school softball recaps.

BROOKVILLE 10, BRADFORD 0, 5 INNINGS

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Carlie McManigle tossed a 3-hitter, and Brookville scored eight runs in the first inning on its way to a 10-0, five-inning win over visiting Bradford.

Jordan MacWilliams and Kennedy Gilbert each hit two-run singles in the big first innings for the Lady Raiders, while McManigle and Hannah Kirkwood added RBI singles with two outs in the fifth inning to end the game.

McManigle struck out seven and walked four, allowing just three singles to Bradford’s Ashley Stoltz, MaKensie Belser and Kaylee Brown.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 8, BROCKWAY 7, 8 INNINGS

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Jenna Weisner’s two-out single to left scored Brianna Weisner from second with the game-winning run, as Elk County Catholic rallied to walk-off Brockway, 8-7, in eight innings.

Brockway had taken a 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Kayla Dowdall that scored Ally Buesink, who had doubled leading off the innings.

But the Lady Crusaders tied the game on a double by Brianna Weisner that scored Sophie Viglione, who had singled.

Josie Smith was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored to pace ECC’s offense. Brandi Clyde and Viglione were both 2-for-3 with Viglione scoring twice and driving in one and Clyde scoring once. Rosina Nero was also 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Brianna Weisner scored twice and drove in one.

Buesink was 3-for-4 with two triples and a double. She drove in two and scored twice while also drawing a walk. Anndi Bartlett was also 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Michelle Gerber got the win going eight innings and allowing seven runs, five earned, on seven hits and six walks while striking out six.

Dowdall took the loss going 7 ⅔ innings allowing eight runs, three earned, on 13 hits. She struck out five and didn’t walk anyone.
