High School Softball/Baseball Roundup: DCC Softball Goes on the Road Beats Smethport

SOFTBALL

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 10, SMETHPORT 2

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Jordy Frank was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run to lead visiting DuBois Central Catholic to a 10-2 win over Smethport.

Riley Assalone picked up the win for the Lady Cardinals allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out eight.

BASEBALL

PUNXSUTAWNEY 7, HOLLIDAYSBURG 2; PUNXSUTAWNEY 10, HOLLIDAYSBURG 8

PUNXUTAWNEY, Pa. – Punxsutawney swept a doubleheader from Hollidaysburg winning the first game 7-2 as the home team then scoring eight times in the top of the seventh before holding off a six-run rally by the Tigers in the bottom of the inning to win Game Two, 10-8.

In Game One, a six-run second was the catalyst for the Chucks victory.

Lance Pennington was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead Punxsy, while John Matthews also drove in two runs and Braxton Giavedoni scored twice.

Peyton Graham got the win going six innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out nine.

Game Two was a pitcher’s dual for six innings with the teams tied at two going to the seventh when Punxsutawney seemed to break it open with the eight-run inning.

But Hollidaysburg came right back and scored six in the bottom of the inning to make things interesting.

John Matthews drove home three more runs and was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Lucas Burkett was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Graham was 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Giavedoni also had a double and was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI with Dylan Huey picking up a pair of hits, scoring a run and driving in one.

John Matthews got the win going six innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks while striking out six. Giavedoni pitched one inning giving up six unearned runs on two hits and four walks while a strikeout.

WILLIAMSPORT 7, DUBOIS 1

DUBOIS, Pa. – Despite a pair of Drew Bankovich doubles, DuBois dropped a 7-1 decision to visiting Williamsport.

Bankovich was 2-for-3 on the day, while Zach Sloan was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. The duo had four of the Beavers seven hits.

Nick LaBrasca took the loss going five innings and allowing five runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four.
