Homer Sopher

Thumbnail (1)Homer Sopher, 80, of Franklin, passed away at 6:23 p.m. on Sunday, July 27th, at Meadville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, following an illness.

Born February 16, 1934 in Rouseville, PA, Homer was the son of the late Joseph Z. and Genevieve Grubb Sopher. He was married to the former Esther M. Braden Christo Sopher on August 21, 1982, and she preceded him in death on December 24, 1998.

Homer was a furniture maker and retired from Sterling Corp. in Jamestown, New York. He enjoyed hunting and wood working. In his early years, he was also an avid bowler and belonged to many bowling leagues.

Homer is survived by his step-sons, Ernie Christo of Jefferson, Ohio, Johnny Christo and his wife, Sue, of Utica, Steve Christo and his wife, Chris, of Oil City, and Merl Christo and his wife, Janine, of North Kingsville, Ohio; and his step-daughters, Linda Gray and her husband, Tom, of Palmetto, Florida, and Tina Christo and her wife, Patricia, of Jamestown, New York; and his sister, Betty Martin of Frewsburg, New York. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Homer was preceded in death by an infant step-son, Ronnie Christo; his brothers, Lawrence, Johnny, Howard and Charles Sopher; and his sisters, Kate Burt, Leta McGee, Joann LaRoy and Jane Berry Wagner.

A graveside service for Homer will be held at a later date at Lamey Cemetery, with Rick Cauvel officiating.
