Homers by Jhang, Weiss Not Enough, as Curve Falls at Erie

ERIE, Pa. – Early solo home runs by Jin-De Jhang and Erich Weiss supplied the only Altoona Curve runs of the day in a 5-2 loss on Wednesday morning at Jerry Uht Park.

The Curve (11-16) split the four-game series with the SeaWolves (12-14) and closed out the seven-game road trip with a 2-5 record.

Erie broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth with a run-scoring groundout by Austin Green against Altoona starter Clay Holmes (Loss, 1-4), and Kody Eaves followed with an RBI triple. The SeaWolves added a run in the sixth on an RBI double by Jason Krizan.

The Curve took an early lead on a solo homer by Jhang in the second, his first of the season. Weiss followed in the third with another solo home run to extend the lead to 2-0.

The SeaWolves got on the board with an RBI double by Harold Castro in the fourth, and Jeff McVaney brought him in with a triple two batters later to tie the game, 2-2.

Erie starter Cory Riordan (Win, 3-2) allowed two runs in six innings with no walks and four strikeouts.

Altoona reliever Josh Smith struck out four of the five batters he faced working in the seventh and eighth innings.

The Curve return home tomorrow to begin a three-game series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Right-hander Tyler Eppler (1-2, 3.38) will be on the hill for Altoona. Righty Joan Gregorio (0-1, 2.08). First pitch at PNG Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Friday night’s game will feature a spectacular Fireworks show. It’s also Bishop Guilfoyle Marauder Night, featuring a BG Marauder Bobblehead giveaway to the first 1,500 fans, presented by Burgmeier’s Hauling. It will also be a Ritchie’s Dairy Kids’ Club Game, and Kids’ Club members can get into the game for free with their membership cards.
