HS Softball Roundup: Brookville Overcomes Nine-Run Deficit to Walk-Off Brockway

Monday’s high school softball recaps.

BROOKVILLE 11, BROCKWAY 10

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Hannah Kirkwood’s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Elaina Powell to give Brookville a come-from-behind 11-10 win over visiting Brockway.

The Lady Raiders trailed 9-0 going into the bottom of the fourth before they scored six runs, sending 11 batter to the plate and taking advantage of three Brockway errors to get back into the game.

Thanks to four more Brockway errors in the fifth, Brookville was able to tie the game at nine only to watch Brockway go back ahead, 10-0, with a run in the top of the sixth.

But in the bottom of the seventh, Powell tripled in the tying run with two outs before scoring the winning run on the Kirkwood single.

Kirkwood had three hits to lead the Lady Raiders. Abby Sunealitis retired the final five batters she faced in relief of starter Carlie McManigle to get the win.

Kayla Dowdall went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead Brockway, which also got a pair of hits, including a double, and three RBis from Carlee Hidinger and two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs from Andi Bartlett.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 13, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 2, 5 INNINGS

DUBOIS, Pa. – Macey Hanes and Jordy Frank both homered to lead DuBois Central Catholic to a 13-2, five-inning win over visiting Elk County Catholic.

Frank was 4-for-4 with the home run and two doubles while collecting three RBIs.

Riley Assalone, Ashley Wruble and Stephanie Rossi all added two hits apiece for the Lady Cardinals.

Assalone got the win going five innings and giving up three hits and one earned run.

Maggie Dinsmore hit a solo home run for ECC.

FOREST AREA 18, SHEFFIELD 14

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Behind home runs from Jaila Guzzi and Allison Carll, Forest Area picked up its first win of the season, 18-14, at Sheffield.

Guzzi hit a 3-run blast, while Carll added a two-run home run. Sarah Schettler was also 2-for-5 with a double and four RBIs, and Makiya Bellotti was 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Cassie Cochran and Jasmine Ginnery each chipped in with doubles for the Fire.
