Icy Roadway Causes One-Car Rollover Crash on Route 36

A moving ambulance on it''s way to a crash site.CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police say around 7:20 p.m. on December 7, a one-car accident occurred on State Route 36, in Bell Township, Clearfield County.

According to police, Lakin Raybuck, 20, of Punxsutawney was traveling south on SR 36, negotiating a slight right-hand curve in the roadway and lost control of her 2010 Toyota RAV4 after hitting an icy area on the road surface.

Upon hitting the icy spot, the vehicle traveled off the west side of the road, then turned across the roadway, striking an embankment along the east side of the road, causing it to roll over before coming to a rest on its left side.

Raybuck was extracated from the vehicle and flown to Altoona Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

Police determined the ice was a result of a plugged water inlet pipe, causing water to run across the road surface and freeze along the east side of the roadway.

Mahaffey Fire Department and Smitty Towing assisted Punxsutawney State Police at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
