Inmate Accused of Assaulting Another Prisoner at Jefferson County Jail

PINE CREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – An inmate is facing criminal charges after he allegedly assaulted another prisoner at the Jefferson County Jail earlier this month.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 37-year-old Michael W Roberto, of Emporium.

According to a criminal complaint, around 5:22 p.m. on January 16, Trooper Malloy, of the Punxsutawney-based State Police, was dispatched to the Jefferson County Jail in Pine Creek Township for a report of a physical assault that occurred on January 13 around 12:30 p.m.

Trooper Malloy was given video surveillance of the assault.

According to the complaint, the video showed Michael Roberto walking up behind a known inmate and pulling and shoving him away from a chair he was attempting to sit in. The victim then grabbed a table to keep from falling down, which allegedly caused injury to the victim’s hands.

The victim was taken to Penn Highlands Hospital in Brookville for treatment of his injuries, which were reported as minor cuts on both hands, including one on his left middle finger that required two stitches.

The following charges were filed against Roberto through Magisterial District Judge Gregory M Bazylak’s office on January 22:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, with Judge Bazylak presiding.
