Ira Eugene “Shorty” Fillhart

Ira Eugene “Shorty” Fillhart, 81, of 7732 Route 119, Punxsutawney, died Friday morning, Jan. 2, 2015, at his home.

Born in Rathmel Nov. 20, 1933, he was a son of the late Milo and Laura Yohe Fillhart.

On Sept. 11, 1954, he was married to Ruth M. Dallenbach Fillhart. She survives and lives in Punxsutawney.

Shorty retired from Doverspike Brothers Coal Co. after 44 years of service.

He was a member of the Roseville Independent Chapel, Brookville.

Shorty enjoyed his church family and fellowship dinners. He was an avid trout fisherman and loved Ford Mustangs, Cadillacs, and being with his family.

He is survived by two sons, Gary E. (Elaine) Fillhart of Reynoldsville and the Rev. James A. (Susan) Fillhart of Punxsutawney; a daughter, Susan R. Guzzo of Rockton; nine grandchildren: Jason Fillhart and Kayla Schreckengost, Jakob, Luke and Jenna Fillhart, Joshua, Mike and Sherri Muth and Kati Guzzo; two great-grandchildren, Makahla and Hayden Fillhart; and one brother, Harold (Louise) Fillhart of Reynoldsville.

He was also preceded in death by six brothers: Howard “Ben,” William, Donald, Clifford, Thomas and Jack Fillhart; and two sisters, Lillian Sprague and Violet Males.

Friends will be received from 5-9 p.m. today (Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015) at the Bernard P. Snyder funeral home in Reynoldsville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at the

Roseville Independent Chapel in Brookville with his son, the Rev. James A. Fillhart, as officiant. Burial will be in Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville.
