Iris Leanna “Beckie” (Kunselman) Hoffman

Iris Leanna “Beckie” (Kunselman) Hoffman, 90, of Sigel, PA, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Monday, April 9, 2018, while a resident of the Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA.

Beckie was born on August 28, 1927, to the late Earl Reed and Hazel Lucetta (Geist) Kunselman, in Dora, Jefferson County. She graduated from the Punxsutawney High School and later attended Clarion College. At the age of 14, she had the unique experience of being sent to care for her grandparents until they passed. This experience started her lifelong attributes of nurturing and caring for her family.

On May 30, 1948, she married George Allen Hoffman in Dora, PA; after 59 years of marriage, George preceded her in passing on November 25, 2007.

Beckie was a member of the Sigel United Methodist Church in Sigel, PA.

In 2000, the early signs of Alzheimer’s set in and Beckie has been living with it ever since. She loved gardening for both vegetables and flowers, specifically red flowers. She would can the vegetables that she grew to use later and share with her family. Beckie was very concerned with her family. She loved them all and served them diligently and selflessly; she was constantly putting others first. She was very protective of her family as well. She also had a love for animals.

Beckie was a homemaker all her life. She kept her home a place where loving warmth was shared, and you always felt invited. When George was working they lived closer to Pittsburgh. After he retired, they bought a farm in Sigel, PA, which felt more like returning home for them, they loved this area. Beckie was also very good with her hands and loved being able to make things such as quilts, crafts, she loved to paint, sew, and create weaving projects.

Her loving family will miss her dearly but are grateful that she is now reunited with George.

Beckie is survived by two sons, James (Marlene) Hoffman and Timothy Leon Hoffman; three daughters, Beckie Lee Pahner, Dee Anna Canavan, Patti Loraine (Anthony) Schaffer; one sister, Phyllis Martz; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Beckie was preceded in death by four siblings, Duane, William, “Jack”, and Lois.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St. Brookville, PA. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018, also at the funeral home, beginning at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Chuck Jack. Interment will take place at the Brookville Cemetery, in Brookville, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Sigel United Methodist Church.
