Isabell Ruth Elkin

Isabell Ruth Elkin, 88 of (Porter) Punxsutawney passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

Mrs. Elkin was born on April 15, 1927 in Smicksburg, a daughter of the late Mitchell and Frances (Hawk) Wells. Isabell married Thomas Preston Elkin on September 15 1961. Thomas survives.

Mrs. Elkin liked to stay busy and was a magnificent homemaker who dearly loved her family. She was an especially good cook who gardened and prepared for her family what she grew. Although her home-cooked meals fresh from the garden were certainly mouth watering, her homemade pies and buns were above all, her specialty items. Isabell’s family was her world. She treasured her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; all of whom she cherished and always found time for them no matter how hectic her schedule. She was a “good mom”; and in her husband’s and children’s words, “She was the best!” Besides being a consummate homemaker, she enjoyed camping, traveling, and Sunday drives.

Isabell is survived by her darling husband Thomas of nearly 54 years; a son Thomas Preston Elkin, Jr. and his wife Becky of Punxsutawney; and a daughter Lois Drummond and Tim Walker of Punxsutawney. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters. Frank Wells and his wife Mary Jane of Smicksburg; Paul Wells and his wife Liz of Plumville; Mabel Daugherty of Erie; and Dorothy Weaver of Marion Center. Isabell is survived by three grandchildren, Derek Elkin, Brilyn Elkin and Kayla Cameron, and Brandy Slovinsky; and three great-grandchildren, Cotton and Maverick Slovinsky and Rylee Elkin.

In addition to her parents, Isabell was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Drummond; two brothers, David and Harry Wells; and a sister, Mae Bouch.

A private family viewing will be held on Friday, 24 July 2015 from 7 – 9 p.m. and under the direction of the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. A private family funeral service will be on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 1100 a.m. at the funeral home and officiated by Pastor Johnny Pennington.
