Ivan L. Himes

Ivan L. Himes, 82, of Brookville, PA, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018, as a patient of UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

He was born on March 18, 1935, to the late J. Rufus and Iva (Johns) Himes in Brookville, PA.

He was married to the late Nancy E. Fisher.

He attended the one room, Green Valley School and eventually graduated from Brookville High School with the class of 1953. After high school he began working as a roughneck on oil rigs. When the opportunity came, Ivan’s dad passed the farm to his two boys, and when they took over they named it the Himes Brothers Farm. The farm is now named Himes Hills Farm.

In addition to his farming, Ivan spent much of his time working on and off as a truck driver. He was a lover of animals, he was very patient and caring with them. He was very social and loved to talk. He enjoyed driving as well, and when they were younger he liked taking family road trips. Those who knew him respected his work ethic. Ivan worked hard his entire life, providing for his family and taking care of his friends, neighbors, and strangers. It didn’t matter to him who was in need, he was always willing to help. He had strong hands with a gentle demeanor. He didn’t need much to be happy in his life and he wasn’t showy or flashy. When he hunted, it was to put meat on the table, he never considered it a sport and never wasted anything he retrieved. He had the ability to find uses for things that many of us would simply throw away. He was thrifty and proud of it.

Ivan is survived by a loving family including two sons, Troy D. Himes and Jeffrey S. (Melissa) Himes; one daughter, Leilani Nanette Himes; and three grandchildren, Logan, Jackson, and Isabella.

In addition to his parents, Ivan is preceded in death by a brother, Everett Lee Himes.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home in Brookville, PA.
