Jack B. Diehl

Jack B. Diehl, 92, of Punxsutawney, died Monday March 6, 2017, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born on December 3, 1924, in Westover, PA, a son of the late Fannie (McKee) and Walter E. Diehl.

On July 19, 1948, he married Ellen M. (Armagost) Diehl, who survives. They were married for 68 years.

He was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School, Class of 1942, where he played football.

Jack served in WWII in the Air Corps as a navigator.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Train Dispatchers Association, and BPOE Eagles 1231.

He retired from the B & O Railroad for the Chessie System working as a dispatcher for 39 years.

He coached and umpired little league baseball for many years while his son Ken was participating in the sport. He especially enjoyed family gatherings, camping, and was an avid fisherman and hunter for many years.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include three children, daughter Peggy McClelland and husband Robert of Indiana, PA, son, Kenneth Diehl and wife Lynn of Stockbridge, GA and daughter, Jean Sinclair of Punxsutawney, PA; eight grandchildren, Larry Manners of Duncansville, PA, Kristi Gehosky of Chesapeake, VA, Douglas and Shawne Manners of Indiana, PA, Daniel and Lisa Diehl of Stockbridge, GA, Jaclyn Sinclair of Hampton, VA, and Rebecca Jones and husband Nick of Panama City, FL; and thirteen great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by and infant daughter, a brother Dean Diehl, and a sister Neva Chesnutt.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor J. Mark Heckman officiating.

Interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Jack, to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Little League, 115 Maple Avenue, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
