James Carl “Hoots” Kovalchick

James Carl “Hoots” Kovalchick, 76, Reynoldsville, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Jefferson Hills Manor after a lengthy illness.

James was born October 24, 1939 in Eleanora, PA; son of the late Paul “Hoot” and Bertha LeEllen (Brewer) Kovalchick.

James married Dorothy (Kuntz) Kovalchick who survives in Reynoldsville. He is also survived by two daughters. Lisa Kovalchick and husband Paul Carter of Belle Vernon, PA and Amanda (Jason) Horner of Belle Vernon and one granddaughter Makenzie Horner.

James was a graduate of Sykesville/Henderson High School class of 1958. He was in the US Marines from 1958-1961. He was a conductor on CSX Railroad, a member of Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in Sykesville and the American Legion in Reynoldsville. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In Lieu of flowers family suggest donations to Alzheimer’s Associations.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30am at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home in Sykesville. Military Honors will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard on Thursday at 10am at the funeral home. Panachida will be held on Thursday at 10:30am at the funeral home.

Services will be held on Thursday at 11am at Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in Sykesville with Rev. Robert Karl officiating. Burial will follow in LakeLawn Memorial Garden in Reynoldsville.
