James E. McIntyre

McIntyre James EJames E. McIntyre, 93, Punxsutawney, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA.

Mr. McIntyre, the son of the late James A. McIntyre and Grace (Swarm) McIntyre was born March 26, 1922, in Punxsutawney.

On Oct 11, 1947, he married Margaret Q. Quinlisk, his pride and joy and wife of 60 years, who preceded him in death in 2007.

Mr. McIntyre worked for 42 years on and retired from the B&O C&O railroad (CSX System) where he also served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Joint Protective Board of the International Brotherhood of Railway Carmen.

Additionally he served the town of Punxsutawney as a member of town council for 21 years including terms from 1966 – 1981; 1986 – 1991 and a one year term in 1994. During that time he was the President of town council from 1970 – 1977 and 1986-1991. He often spoke proudly, after being first elected to council, of influencing the town’s ability to arrive at a balanced budget for the first time in several years; and later the building of the Borough Civic Center and Library and the creation of a Parks and Recreation Department.

He also served our country in the US Army during WWII in the South Pacific prior to returning home after discharge in 1946.

A member of Saint’s Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church, he graduated from Punxsutawney Area High school in 1941 and took classes at Northwestern University while stationed in Chicago during his military service.

As a member of the Punxsutawney Country Club, he loved golf which he did not begin playing till later in his life and also managed to hit three hole in ones prior to discontinuing playing the game. He also was a lifelong member of the Elks Club and over the years the Punxsutawney High School Sports Booster club.

He lived his life with beaming pride, while giving and caring, for his family of nine children including his very special daughter Patricia Young who preceded him in death in 1993 and his eight surviving children and spouses – James P. McIntyre and wife Eileen of Reynoldsville, Mike McIntyre and wife Ann of Punxsutawney, Phil McIntyre and wife Vickie of Los Angeles, CA; Peggy McIntyre of Punxsutawney who provided daily personal care and comfort for him over the last many years of his life; Bob McIntyre and wife Rebecca of Fairfax, VA; Paul McIntyre and wife Sue of Houston, TX; Susie Deeley and husband Doug of Punxsutawney and Rick McIntyre and wife Estela of Punxsutawney. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents, wife, and daughter, he was preceded in death by his only sibling and brother Donald of Bremerton, WA.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., Sunday, August 9, 2015, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, August 10, 2015, at SSCD Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Msgr Joseph J. Riccardo officiating.

Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
