James “Jim” Edward Metts

James “Jim” Edward Metts, 77, a longtime resident of Richardsville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, while a patient at Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital.

Jim had been a resident of Brookside Senior Living for the last year.

He was born on September 5, 1944, to the late Francis Edwin and Lucille Anita (McDowell) Metts in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

He proudly served his country with the United States Army as an Infantryman.

Jim graduated from Brookville High School with the class of 1962 and spent most of his working life on the railroad in Brookville.

He was a member of the Brookville Church of Christ, FOE #983, and Brookville Firemens Club. He was also a longtime member of the National Street Rod Association and would frequently attend the NSRA annual Street Rod Nationals East convention.

Jim was an outdoorsman; he was known to fish and hunt but had an all-around appreciation for nature. He would participate in the Laurel Fesitval, hunting rattlesnakes for use in the bagging contest.

Jim’s real passion was building cars, often from the ground up. He would repurpose common vehicles to be used for recreation and was known for his street rod builds.

Jim is survived by two children; James Scott Metts; Barbara Jean Roth; his fiancée; Linda Reichart; four grandchildren; Leigha Hudd; Lauren Hudd; Brandy Roth; Aaron Roth; and two siblings; Marie Metts and Marion Blunt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by one daughter; Patricia Ann Metts; one brother; Edwin Metts; one infant sister; and James’ and Barbara’s mother; Virginia Shaffer.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 17, 2021, from 4pm to 8pm at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825.

A second viewing will take place on Saturday, September 18, 2021, also at the funeral home, from 10am to 11am.

A funeral service will take place immediately following the second viewing, beginning at 11am and officiated by Pastor Randy Matheny.

Interment will take place at Riggs Cemetery, Warsaw Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
