James Kenneth Uren

Uren JamesJames Kenneth Uren was born on December 14, 1940, in DuBois, Pa, and died July 4, 2015, in Boise, Id.

Jim Uren was most at home in the mountains and on the lakes of Idaho. His irrepressible smile and ever present jokes happily infected everyone around him. Jim never met a stranger and would help anyone in need. He left us on the 4th of July, and we celebrate the life he lived.

He was preceded by his parents Merle and Alice Uren and his wife LaVerne Uren. He is survived by his wife Marilee Uren, sister Carol (Jim) Oswalt, children Mechelle (Mike) Rourke, Steven and Julie Downer, grandchildren Jacob and Megan Rourke, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Jim served in the U.S. Air Force and moved to California as a young man. He earned his Bachelors degree from Cal State while he was in the Air Force and began work for the telephone company. The family moved to Boise in 1972 where Jim worked for Mountain Bell and AT&T.

Other than his devotion to family and unrelenting sense of humor, Jim’s most defining trait was his love for the outdoors. Whether fishing, hunting, or searching for Indian artifacts, he was at home in the wilderness. The reality of his exploits almost lived up to his wildly entertaining stories. Jim spent the last few years of his life happily exploring with Marilee.

The Celebration of Life will be at Summers Funeral Home in Meridian at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 8, reception to follow. Memorials can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Online condolences may be sent to Summers Funeral Home.
