James P. Girty, Jr.

James P. Girty, Jr., 92, a resident of Highland View Health Care in Brockway, and a former resident of Elk Towers, St. Marys, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Highland View Health Care, after a lengthy illness.

He was born January 12, 1926, in Cleveland, OH, son of the late James P. Sr. and Helen Marie Fulmer Eckl. He was a resident of the area most of his life and was a retired employee of the Pure Carbon Company.

James is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Gerber and her husband Wayne of Lindale, TX, and Carol Smith and her husband Harry of Weedville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and by three brothers, Earl Eckl and his wife Joanie of Daguscahonda, Charles Eckl and his wife Carol of Kersey, and Richard Eckl and his wife Patty of Daguscahonda.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a sister, Jean (Eckl) Gray; and by a brother, William Girty.

James was a member of the St. Agnes Episcopal Church and was a veteran of the US Army, having served during World War II. He was an avid sportsman, was a caretaker at the St. Marys Sportsmen’s Club, and was active in Trout Unlimited for many years.

There will be no visitation.

Private funeral and committal services will be held at the convenience of the family.
