James R. Chase

James R. Chase, 55 of Punxsutawney passed away to Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital due to complications from COVID.

James was born on September 22, 1966 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, the son of James and Erma (Pasierb) Chase who both survive.

He was a 1985 graduate of DuBois Area High School. After high school, James decided to join the ranks of the Military and was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served from 1986 to 1992, attaining the rank of Sergeant.

He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Penn State University and in his earlier career.

Jim was a teacher for adjudicated teens at the Loysville Youth Development Center employed by West Perry School District.

Later on in his professional career, Jim was employed as a supervisor at Abraxas in Marienville.

He was an avid and very competitive r/c racer and the sport was a lifelong passion of his, being introduced to racing while stationed with the Marines in San Diego, CA.

James displayed many trophies over the several years that he participated in racing events and was very dedicated to designing logos, trophies, plaques and t-shirts for countless races.

Most recently, Jim was a graphic designer and small business owner of Visual Impact in downtown Punxsutawney.

In addition to his parents, Jim is survived by two brothers Robert Chase (Cara) of Brookville and William Chase of Curwensville, nieces and nephews Emily, Anthony, Faith, Courtney, Robert and Katlyn.

Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Calling hours will be on Monday, October 18 from 2 PM to 3 PM at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway.

A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 3 PM with Rev. James M. Chase officiating.

Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery in DuBois. Full Military honors will be accorded prior to the service on Monday afternoon by Parson-Marnati Post #95 of the American Legion.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
