James R. Shirley

James R Shirley, 96, originally of Punxsutawney, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 in Palm Harbor, Fl.

Born on November 26, 1917, he was the son of the late Roy E. and Bertha N. (Long) Shirley. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Virginia Ruth Shirley, one son Donald R. Shirley and his wife,
Patricia of Palm Harbor, Fl., one daughter Sandra J. Nungester and her husband Don of Spring, Tx., and by one niece Karen Harshman of Punxsutawney, Pa.

He was a veteran of the US Navy Seabees, having served in World War II.

He retired from a career with the Panama Canal Company serving as the Chief of the Community Services Division.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dunedin, Fl., the Panama Canal Society of Florida, the Dunedin masonic High Twelve, as well as the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He was preceded in death by one son, David Shirley; two sisters Ruth Shirley and Jane Rowland; and by one brother Reed Shirley.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday October 4, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Circle Hill Cemetery with Rev. Doug Dyson officiating..
