Jane Marie Filler

Early Tuesday the Morning of June 15, 2021, Jane Marie Filler (nee Shirey) of Akron, Ohio, finished her race here on earth and was called home to heaven to claim her eternal reward and be reunited with her late husband, Kenneth, at the age of 82.

Jane, was the daughter of the late Robert and Helen (nee Ishman) Shirey, and was born in Punxsutawney, PA, on August 30, 1938, and graduated from West End High School in 1956.

Jane attended GBS in Cincinnati briefly, before returning to Punxsutawney, where she met the love of her life, Kenneth.

Jane and Kenneth were married in 1963 and promptly relocated to Akron, Ohio.

Other than her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth S. on June 18, 2013, they were united in marriage on September 7, 1963.

She leaves behind two sons, Kenneth Robert (Kathleen) Filler of Spring Hill, Florida, and Paul David (Wendy) Filler of Stow, Ohio; five grandchildren, Paul David (Krista) Filler Jr, Jessica (Chris) Frost, Jaret Filler, Ryan Zimmerman and Amber Zimmerman; three great-grandchildren, Adelaide, Natalie and Kailey; and many nieces and nephews.

Jane is also survived by one brother, Paul (Pauline) Shirey of Punxsutawney, PA.

Jane was a longtime member of the Tallmadge Wesleyan Methodist Church before its closing in 2018.

Jane was an accomplished musician and was known for her many musical talents. She would sing and play the accordion and piano at local churches but was known for her mastery of the piano.

Jane was a homemaker all of her life after getting married, never working outside the home, making sure her family was taken care of.

She was also known for her talents for cake decorating and made many wedding cakes for clients through the years.

Family and friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, on Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, where a funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM, where Pastors Randy and Susan Evans will celebrate Jane’s life.

Jane will be laid to rest with her husband at the Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery in Frostburg, PA, where committal prayers will take place on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 12:00 PM
