Janis L. Mumau

Janis L. Mumau, 57, of Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at home.

She was born July 8, 1957, in Indiana, Pa., a daughter of late Edward E. and Delores J. (Neiswonger) Shick, who survives.

She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in sociology.

She worked at the Community Guidance Center as a family-based therapist.

She enjoyed flowers, crafts, reading, baking, cooking, camping, fishing, the outdoors, and the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her significant other, Dennis “Mole” Brocious of Punxsutawney; two daughters, Shannon L. Mumau of Punxsutawney and Deana N. Vasbinder and husband Douglas A. of Smithport; two grandchildren, Jayden R. and Paige N. Vasbinder; a sister, Beverly Bigley and husband Rick of Bethany Beach, Delaware; a brother, Jerry Shick and wife Nancy of Downingtown, Pa.; four nieces; one nephew; and two great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward E. Shick.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at the funeral home, with Pastor Mark Brady officiating.

Interment will be at Marion Center Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made, in memory of Janis, to Birdie’s Closet of the Woman’s Imaging Center of Indiana Regional Medical Center.
