Jay “Fred” Dean Sr.

150x187-3904709[1]Jay “Fred” Dean Sr., age 90, of Henderson Street in Brookville, PA, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2015, at the Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee, FL.

He was born on July 9, 1925, to the late John Gayle and Lillian May (Leisie) Dean. Fred was a retired truck driver of 46 years.

He joined the Marine’s in 1943 and served with the 11th Amphibian Battalion for the 5th Marine Division.

He drove an amphibian that carried 18 – 20 men ashore 8 to 10 times at Iwo Jima.

Fred enjoyed reading, fishing, gardening, and sports. He and his wife enjoyed spending the winters in Florida until she was unable to do so.

Most of all he loved his family. Fred was a thoughtful, caring, and kind person who touched many lives, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by 6 daughters, Betsy (Don) Shanor of Beaver Falls, Alene (Bill) Joiner of Brookville, Susan Olson of Indiana, Dottie (Jim) McStay of Kissimmee, FL, Kathy (Ben) Park of Corsica, Rusty (John) Pickard of Butler; 2 sons, Jay Fred Dean Jr., of New Castle, and Rob Dean of Brookville; 16 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers, John (June), Howard, Randy (Chris), Alvin, and Charles (Pat); and 2 sisters, Freda and Alice.

In addition to his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise (Duncan) Dean, who passed away on April 15, 2014; his son Tom (Patty) Dean; 2 brothers, Norman and Kenneth; and 2 sisters, Bernice and Elsie.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, December 21, 2015, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825.

A second day of visitation will take place from 9:30am – 10:30am at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 59 Stone Rd., Brookville, PA, 15825.

A funeral service will immediately follow the viewing at the church, beginning at 10:30am and officiated by the Rev. J. Ray Baker.

Interment to take place at the Brookville Cemetery, in Brookville, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Red Cross, PO Box 185, Pittsburgh, PA, or to the McKinley Health Center, 133 Laurelbrooke Dr., Brookville, PA, 15825.
