Jean Ann (Hanley) Cignetti

Jean Ann (Hanley) Cignetti, of Punxsutawney, passed away at home on December 31, 2015 with her family at her side.

She was born on July 4, 1946, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of the late George Clarence and Maude Marie (Reesman) Hanley. Following the passing of her mother at an early age, she made her home with her aunt and uncle, the late Gilbert and Helen Murray, also of Punxsutawney.

Jean was a member of the Punxsutawney High School Class of 1964. Upon her graduation from Indiana Hospital School of Nursing, she was employed as a registered nurse at Indiana Hospital, the office of Dr. William Barkley, Indiana, PA, and Washington Medical Center, Washington, DC.

She was a former resident of Shadow Wood Village, Indiana, PA, and Montgomery Village, Maryland. Jean was a member of the Indiana Hospital Nurses Alumni Association.

On March 18, 1970, she married Nicholas John Cignetti who preceded her in death in 2004. Upon her retirement from Washington Medical Center, Jean returned to Punxsutawney in 2007, purchased the home where she was raised, and refurbished it to its original beauty. She could be seen walking her cherised pet dachshunds, GiGi and Zoey, up and down Murray Alley on a daily basis. She also continued to serve others as a caregiver.

She is survived by seven brothers, Samuel Hanley and friend Sara, Paul (Catherine) Hanley, Robert (Barbara) Hanley, Gilbert “Bud” Hanley, George (Jeannine) Hanley, and Raymond (Darlene) Hanley, all of Punxsutawney; and James Hanley of Hamburg, NY; three sisters, Maxine Cooper of Columbus, Ohio, Mary Leonard of Grampian, and Kathy (Richard) Conrad of Punxsutawney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Arnold, an infant sister, Barbara, and a sister, Sally Lou Whitesell.

Per her wishes, funeral services are private and under the direction of McCabe Funeral Home. J

ean was known as a lifelong animal lover.
