Jefferson County Jail Seeks Guards

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — With the Jefferson County Jail expanding, there will be more inmates held there and thus, more work.

At the last county Jail Board meeting, Warden Tom Elbel said overtime pay for his full-time staff may be higher because they can’t find enough people to fill part-time guards.

“We are taking applications at the jail,” Elbel said.

Starting pay is $10.75 per hour for the first six months or 90 shifts worked, whichever comes first. After that, the pay rate is $14.55 per hour.

“You can get to the higher rate fairly quickly, it just depends on how much they want to work,” Elbel said.

Applicants must have a high school diploma and must be able to pass a drug screen.

Those interested can fill out an application at the Jefferson County Jail.
