Jefferson County Man Accused of Issuing Check from Non-Existent Account to Pay for Citation

BROOKVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Jefferson County man allegedly issued a check from a non-existent account to pay for a citation that he was issued in Brookville Borough.

According to court documents, the Brookville Borough Police Department filed the following charges against 34-year-old Raymond R. Gongaware, of Punxsutawney, on March 18:

– Criminal Attempt – Theft By Deception-False Impression, Misdemeanor 2
– Bad Checks, Summary

According to a criminal complaint, Raymond Gongaware wrote a check out of an account that did not exist for a citation that he was issued.

The complaint states that Gongaware issued a check in the amount of $182.00 for a citation for Obedience to Traffic Control Device. The check was returned to the magistrate’s office stating that the account no longer exists.

Magisterial District Court 54-3-03 was charged $50.00 for the returned check, and that will be added to the total amount due.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on May 2 in Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak’s office.

A certified summons was accepted on March 22.
