Jefferson County Man Accused of Killing Four Kittens Faces Animal Cruelty Charges

RINGGOLD TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Jefferson County man is facing animal cruelty charges after four kittens were found dead in Ringgold Township.

A release issued Tuesday by Punxsutawney-based State Police Tpr. Powell said a known female discovered a cardboard box containing 4 deceased kittens and 1 living kitten in the bed of a pickup truck earlier this month.

The vehicle owner, 79-year-old Elmer Reed of Punxsutawney, was located and police interviewed him about the animals.

“It was learned that Reed did not want (the cats) at his residence/barn and killed the animals,” said Tpr. Powell.

The woman who reported the incident was permitted to keep the kitten that was found alive after she agreed to provide a home and medical treatment for it.

Animal cruelty charges were filed against Reed at Magisterial District Court Douglas R. Chambers’ office.
