Jefferson County Man Accused of Stealing Woman’s Car While She Slept

YOUNG TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Jefferson County man is facing felony charges after he allegedly stole a woman’s car while she was asleep.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 33-year-old Adam Lewis Mingle, of Walston, Pa.

According to a criminal complaint, around 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2019, Trooper Abernathy, of the Punxsutawney-based State Police, was dispatched to a residence on Walston Road in Young Township, Jefferson County, for a report of a stolen vehicle.

According to the complaint, Trooper Abernathy spoke to a known female victim who reported that her dark blue Dodge Charger was stolen from her garage in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 12.

The victim indicated that she woke up for work around 3:30 a.m. and noticed that her live-in friend, Adam Mingle, was gone, and her vehicle was gone, as well. She related that her keys for the vehicle were taken from her purse, and she also noted that Mingle had never operated her vehicle before or had permission to take the vehicle.

The victim stated that Mingle has a suspended license and is on probation. She also told Trooper Abernathy that she did not report the vehicle missing on Thursday because she thought Mingle would bring it back. She explained she had been in contact with him, but he “keeps giving her the run around” regarding whey he could not return the vehicle.

The victim provided Trooper Abernathy with a written statement regarding the incident and also noted that Mingle had threatened to “smash up” the vehicle if she called the police to report it stolen.

The following charges were filed against Mingle through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on September 25:

– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 2
– Receiving Stolen Property, Felony 2

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on November 7, with Judge Mizerock presiding.
