Jefferson County Man Tells Police He Thought He Was Breaking into Relative’s Apartment

arrestedPUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) — A Punxsutawney man is behind bars after police say he broke into an Myrtle Avenue apartment on Sunday.

According to a criminal complaint filed Monday by Punxsutawney Borough Police, Andre Pier St. Laurent, 22, allegedly broke a window and entered an apartment at 206 Myrtle Avenue around 3:54 a.m.

The window glass and screen were damaged and several drops of blood were discovered on the wall and carpet, according to the criminal complaint.

According to the criminal complaint, St. Laurent told Officer Brudnock he “thought he was at a relative’s house and he was sorry and willing to pay for any damages.”

Damages were estimated at $1,000.

St. Laurent was arraigned Monday in front of District Magistrate Robert Chambers on the following charges:

  • Criminal trespass, break into structure, Felony 2
  • Criminal mischief, intentionally damages another’s property, Misdemeanor 2

St. Laurent was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail after failing to post $30,000 cash bail.

He faces a preliminary hearing on April 4 before Judge Chambers.
