Jefferson County Relay for Life Set for Saturday at Brookville Town Square

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – Jefferson County’s 2019 Relay for Life will be held at Brookville’s Town Square on Saturday.

Team set ups begin at 10:00 a.m. and teams begin walking at 12:00 p.m.

Relay for Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. It brings the community together to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society make a global impact on cancer.

The Opening Ceremony begins at 1:00 p.m. kicking off the event by honoring everyone who’s been affected by cancer and everyone who has contributed to the success of this year’s Relay season.

The Luminaria Ceremony begins at 9:00 p.m. During this ceremony everyone touched by cancer is represented with a Luminaria. Each light represents a life — a life taken by cancer, a survivor of cancer, or a support for a person still fighting the disease. It’s a powerful demonstration that gives people the opportunity to grieve but also offers comfort and hope.

Finally, the closing ceremony will be held at 10:00 p.m. This is the time to commit to take action and help lead the fight for a world free from cancer. It’s a time to celebrate what has been accomplished and a time to unify for the work that needs to be done moving forward.
