Jefferson County Woman Faces Charges for Theft of Game System

BELL TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Charges have been filed against a Jefferson County woman who allegedly admitted to stealing and then selling a game system.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 23-year-old Melissa Denise Dillard, of Punxsutawney.

According to a criminal complaint, around 3:45 p.m. on April 16, Trooper Green, of the Punxsutawney-based State Police, interviewed Melissa Dillard at the PSP Punxsutawney barracks.

According to the complaint, during the interview, Dillard admitted to stealing a missing Xbox.

Dillard allegedly stated she was at the residence the Xbox was taken from and excused herself to go to the restroom, but instead, she took the Xbox out of the bedroom and took it to her boyfriend’s vehicle, the complaint states.

Dillard stated that her boyfriend had no involvement or knowledge of her actions. She added that after they left the residence, they went directly to Game Stop in Johnstown and sold the Xbox. Dillard also provided a written statement explaining her actions, according to the complaint.

The Xbox was subsequently recovered from Game Stop and returned to the victim.

Based on the investigation, the following charges were filed against Dillard in Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on Wednesday, May 15:

– Theft by Unlawful Taking – Movable Property, Misdemeanor 1
– Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 1

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, with Judge Mizerock presiding.
